The Finish Nobody
Sees Coming.

Bad drywall finishing only shows up under raking light. Bad painting only shows up when the second coat goes on thin. By then the crew is gone. FAIME checks quality under every light source before the painter leaves.

01

Correct Coats, Proper Drying

Three coats of compound — tape coat, filler coat, finish coat — each dried fully before the next. Sanding between coats. No shortcuts that show up as ridges under flat paint.

02

Primer Is Not Optional

Every surface gets the right primer for the application — drywall primer on new board, stain-blocking primer on water-stained areas. Skipping primer is how paint peels in 18 months.

03

We Use Premium Paint

FAIME specifies premium paints (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams) on every project — not discount product that requires three coats to cover. Better product, better result, better long-term performance.

04

Protection & Masking

Floors, fixtures, and cabinets are properly masked before any painting begins. We don't leave spatter on your hardwood floors or overspray on your new tile.

05

Level 5 Capability

Not every drywall crew can deliver Level 5 finish — the full skim coat required for semi-gloss paint and dramatic lighting. FAIME has the plasterers who can do it right.

06

Seamless with Other FAIME Trades

When drywall and painting are part of a larger FAIME project, coordination is built in — drywall doesn't go up until framing inspection is passed, painting doesn't start until tile grout is fully cured.

07

Exterior Paint Colour Matching

When existing exterior surfaces need to match — columns, trim, fascia, or stucco — FAIME mixes and applies colour-matched semi-gloss exterior paint that blends seamlessly with what's already there. No visible patchwork, no mismatched sections.

Drywall &
Painting Process

01

Framing & Inspection Ready

Drywall begins only after framing inspection is passed, all mechanical rough-ins are complete and inspected, and vapour barrier/insulation is in place. No shortcuts on sequencing.

02

Board Hang

Drywall hung with proper fastener pattern, correct board thickness for fire rating requirements, moisture-resistant product in wet areas, and perpendicular to framing members.

03

Taping & Finishing

Paper tape embedded in first coat of compound. Filler coat applied and sanded. Finish coat applied, sanded to specified level. Corners and reveals finished crisp.

04

Primer Application

Full coat of drywall primer on all new surfaces. Spot primer on any repaired areas. Stain-blocking primer where required. Scuff-sanding between primer and finish coat.

05

Paint — Two Finish Coats Minimum

First finish coat applied, allowed to dry fully, checked under raking light for holidays. Second coat applied. Trim and ceilings cut in by hand for clean lines at every intersection.

06

Touch-Up & Site Clean

All touch-ups completed. Paint protection removed from floors and fixtures. Hardware reinstalled. Site cleaned and left ready for client final walk-through.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Level 5 finish involves applying a skim coat of joint compound over the entire wall surface — not just the joints — creating a completely smooth, uniform surface. It's required whenever walls will receive semi-gloss or gloss paint (which highlights imperfections), wherever strong raking or side-lighting will be present (like picture rails or directional ceiling lights), and in high-end residential applications. It costs more and takes longer — but if your lighting setup demands it, nothing else will look right.
On new drywall: one primer coat + two finish coats minimum. On previously painted surfaces in good condition: one prime coat (where needed) + two finish coats. We do not apply single-coat finishes on any surface — the second coat fills holidays missed in the first and produces the depth of colour that makes a paint job look professional versus DIY. We use premium paint products that actually cover in two coats rather than budget products that technically require four to achieve the same coverage.
Yes — but with an honest caveat. Patching drywall to be invisible under flat paint is achievable in most cases. Patching to match an existing textured finish (orange peel, knockdown, skip-trowel) requires matching the original texture closely — we can get very close but an exact match is not always possible, especially in older homes. Patching to match a heavily aged or faded painted wall may require repainting the entire wall or room to achieve a seamless result. We'll tell you what to expect before we start.
Yes — pre-sale whole-house repaints are one of the highest-ROI investments you can make before listing. FAIME offers competitive pricing on pre-sale repaints and can typically mobilize within 1–2 weeks. We use Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams products, provide a full colour consultation if needed, and leave your home photo-ready. For homes that are staged and occupied, we coordinate access and work in sections to minimize disruption.
