Flat Walls Are
No Accident.

Bad drywall finishing only shows up under raking light — after the crew is gone and the paint is on. FAIME checks every surface under side-lighting before we call it finished.

01

Right Sequencing

Board goes up only after framing inspection is passed, mechanical rough-ins are complete and inspected, and insulation and vapour barrier are in place.

02

Three Coats, Fully Dried

Tape coat, filler coat, finish coat — each dried completely before the next, with sanding between. Rushed compound is how ridges appear under flat paint.

03

True Level 5 Capability

Not every crew can deliver a full skim coat over entire surfaces. FAIME has the finishers who can — for semi-gloss paint, dramatic lighting, and premium rooms.

04

Raking-Light QC

Every finished surface is checked under harsh side-light — the same light that would expose flaws after your pot lights go in — before we hand off to paint.

05

The Right Board, Every Room

Moisture-resistant board in wet areas, cement board behind tile, fire-rated assemblies where code requires them. Board choice is a code and durability decision.

06

Dust Control

Sanding is the messiest stage of any renovation. Containment barriers, floor protection, and daily cleanup keep the rest of your home livable.

07

Seamless Handoff to Paint

When FAIME handles both trades, the painter knows exactly what finish level they're getting — and primer goes on a surface that's actually ready for it.

Our Drywall
Process

01

Site-Ready Check

Framing inspection passed, rough-ins complete and inspected, insulation and vapour barrier in place. Drywall that goes up too early gets torn down later.

02

Board Hang

Correct board type and thickness per room, proper fastener pattern, hung perpendicular to framing. Moisture-resistant and fire-rated product where required.

03

Tape Coat

Paper tape embedded in the first coat of compound on every joint and angle. Corner bead set straight and true.

04

Filler & Finish Coats

Filler coat applied and sanded, finish coat applied and sanded to the specified level — including full-surface skim for Level 5.

05

Inspect Under Raking Light

Every surface checked under harsh side-lighting and touched up before sign-off. This is the step most crews skip.

06

Prime-Ready Handoff

Dust removed, surfaces wiped, site cleaned. Walls handed off genuinely ready for primer — yours or ours.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Level 5 means a skim coat of compound over the entire wall surface — not just the joints — creating one completely uniform plane. You need it wherever semi-gloss or gloss paint will be used (sheen highlights every imperfection), wherever strong raking or directional light will hit the wall, and in premium rooms where flatness is the standard. It costs more and takes longer, but if your lighting or paint demands it, nothing else will look right.
Under flat paint, yes — in most cases a properly feathered patch disappears. Matching an existing texture (orange peel, knockdown, skip-trowel) gets very close but an exact match isn't always possible, especially in older homes. And a patch on a heavily aged or faded painted wall may need the full wall repainted for a seamless result. We tell you which case you have before we start, not after.
Moisture-resistant (green) board belongs in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other humid areas — and behind tile in wet zones, cement board is the right substrate. Fire-rated (Type X) assemblies are required by code in specific locations such as between an attached garage and living space. FAIME installs to Ontario Building Code requirements and will flag what your project needs during the site visit.
Boarding a typical room takes about a day; finishing takes longer than most people expect — three coats of compound each need to dry fully before the next, so taping through final sanding usually runs 3–5 days depending on humidity and finish level. Level 5 adds time for the skim coat. We'd rather quote you a real schedule than a fast one that produces ridges under your paint.
