Every Surface.
Every Material.

Tile and flooring work lives or dies on substrate prep, layout planning, and the setter's eye. FAIME doesn't rush this work — the detail is the point. Choose a material type below.

Ceramic & Porcelain

All formats up to 24"×48" slab tiles. Precision setting with full back-buttering, levelling clips on large format, and ANSI-compliant grout joints from edge to edge.

  • Bathroom floor & wall tile
  • Large-format porcelain slabs
  • Mosaic & decorative tile
  • Outdoor & patio tile

Natural Stone

Marble, travertine, slate, and limestone installed correctly — with proper substrate, transition strips, and impregnating sealer applied after setting and grouting.

  • Marble floors & feature walls
  • Travertine tile & pavers
  • Slate & limestone
  • Full sealing every project

Backsplash & Accents

Kitchen backsplash, shower niches, feature walls, and decorative borders — tile patterns planned and set so every cut lands where it should.

  • Kitchen backsplash
  • Subway tile (brick & stacked)
  • Herringbone & chevron
  • Shower niche tile

Uncoupling Membrane

Schluter DITRA or equivalent installed under tile to prevent cracking by decoupling movement between tile and substrate.

  • DITRA uncoupling membrane
  • Waterproofing integration
  • Movement joint placement
  • Schluter profile trim

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

100% waterproof LVP in floating or glue-down installations. The fastest-growing flooring category in the GTA — durable, beautiful, and affordable.

  • LVP floating install
  • LVT glue-down
  • Fully waterproof options
  • Transitions & thresholds

Laminate & Specialty

Laminate flooring, cork, and bamboo — properly acclimatized, underlayed, and installed level for a result that performs for decades.

  • Laminate floating install
  • Cork flooring
  • Bamboo flooring
  • Proper acclimatization

Floor Preparation

Self-levelling compound, grinding, and substrate repair — the invisible work that determines whether any floor looks good in 1 year or 20.

  • Self-levelling compound
  • Grinding & scarifying
  • Moisture membrane
  • Transition remediation

Shower Waterproofing

Schluter KERDI, RedGard, or membrane system applied to every shower we tile — because tile is not waterproof and skipping this step causes mold and structural damage.

  • Schluter KERDI membrane
  • Liquid waterproofing (RedGard)
  • Curb & niche waterproofing
  • OBC code compliant

Shower Tile & Surrounds

Floor-to-ceiling shower tile, tub surrounds, and wet area finishes — set on waterproofed substrates for results that last 20+ years without callbacks.

  • Floor-to-ceiling shower tile
  • Tub surround tile
  • Bench & niche tile
  • Schluter trims & transitions

Bathroom & Feature Walls

Master bath floors, feature walls, and powder room tile — every layout planned to the centimetre before mortar is mixed, every grout joint consistent.

  • Bathroom floor tile
  • Feature wall tile
  • Powder room tile
  • Transition to adjacent floors

The Difference Is
in the Details.

Anyone can stick tile to a wall. Not everyone can do it so it still looks perfect five years later. Substrate prep, layout planning, and mortar selection are what separate a professional tile job from a DIY disaster.

01

Substrate Prep — Always First

Cracks, high spots, and flexing subfloors are the enemy of tile. We assess and correct every substrate before the first tile goes down — no shortcuts.

02

Layout Planned to the Centimetre

We dry-lay and plan every floor and shower before mixing mortar — confirming cuts, grout joint widths, and centring that makes the finished product look intentional, not accidental.

03

Large-Format Experience

60×120cm tiles are the trend in GTA renovations — and they require proper back-buttering, levelling clips, and substrate verification that most tile setters are not equipped for.

04

Waterproofing Behind Every Shower

Every shower we tile is waterproofed with a membrane system (Schluter KERDI or similar) before tile is applied. Wet area tile without membrane is a mold time bomb.

05

Proper Grouting & Sealing

Grout selection, joint tooling, and sealing of natural stone and porous materials done properly. Grout that cures right and sealer that actually protects.

Our Tile &
Flooring Process

FAIME Construction installs tile and flooring across Toronto, Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton and the GTA — ceramic, porcelain, large-format and natural stone, luxury vinyl plank, shower surrounds and backsplashes. Every installation includes proper substrate preparation and waterproofing for lasting, level results in homes and commercial spaces.15+ years of trade experience · 100+ GTA projects · WSIB Active · $2M CGL · Free site visits

01

Substrate & Site Assessment

We inspect subfloor flatness (ANSI A108.02 tolerances), moisture levels, and existing conditions. Any issues are identified and priced for correction before work begins.

02

Layout Planning

We plan the tile layout dry before any mortar is mixed — confirming centring, cut locations, and grout joint consistency from entry to far wall.

03

Substrate Preparation

Self-levelling compound, cement board, waterproofing membrane, or uncoupling membrane installed as required. This step determines whether your tile lasts 5 years or 50.

04

Setting & Installation

Tile set using appropriate mortar for the tile format and substrate. Levelling clips used for large-format tile. Full coverage confirmed on every tile — no lippage, no hollow spots.

05

Grouting & Detailing

Grout applied after mortar cure time. Joints tooled consistently, haze removed, movement joints placed at proper locations per TCNA guidelines.

06

Sealing & Protection

Natural stone and grout sealed with appropriate sealer. Finished surface protected with paper and cardboard until final reveal. Site cleaned and left ready for next trade.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The ANSI standard requires no more than 3mm variation over a 3-meter span (or 1.5mm over 0.6m) for tile substrates. Anything beyond that needs self-levelling compound or grinding. Subfloor deflection is also critical — wood subfloors must be adequately stiffened to prevent tile and grout cracking over time. FAIME assesses your subfloor as part of our estimate and includes any required prep work in the quote so there are no surprises mid-project.
Contrary to popular belief, large-format tiles (12×24" or larger) can make small bathrooms feel bigger because fewer grout lines mean less visual fragmentation of the floor. However, large tiles require a flatter substrate and more precise layout planning. For shower walls, 4×16" subway tile, 3×12" brick pattern, or 12×24" vertical stacked all look great in compact bathrooms. FAIME will help you plan the layout so the cuts and grout lines end up in the right places.
Yes — absolutely. Tile is not waterproof. Water migrates through grout joints and can saturate the substrate behind the tile. Without a proper waterproofing membrane (like Schluter KERDI, RedGard, or similar), you will eventually get mold, structural damage, and tile failure. In Ontario, waterproofing behind wet areas is required by code. FAIME waterproofs every shower we tile — it is not optional.
A typical full bathroom tile job (floor, shower walls, tub surround) takes 3–5 days for a FAIME crew. This includes substrate prep, waterproofing, setting, grouting, and sealing — with proper cure times respected between each stage. Rushing tile work — setting before substrate is cured, grouting before mortar has set — causes failures that show up months later.
