Red Brick to White —
Planned on Paper First

FAIME Construction Inc. repainted the full exterior of a detached bungalow in Etobicoke, Toronto, in May 2026, working directly for the homeowner. Before any paint was opened, FAIME marked up the house's elevation drawings to show the homeowner exactly where each colour would go and explained what to expect. The red brick was then painted white, and the windows, doors, railings, gutters, soffits and porch trim were finished in a contrasting dark colour. A crew of four completed the work in one week, on schedule, within budget and with zero safety incidents.Exterior house painting · Etobicoke, Toronto & the GTA · 15+ years' trade experience · WSIB Active · $2M CGL · 2-year workmanship warranty

The Starting Point

The house was a classic Etobicoke bungalow: red brick, white windows and white trim, white aluminium railings, white gutters and downspouts, and a covered front porch. It was well kept, but the homeowner wanted a completely different, contemporary look. Painting the brick is a decision that is difficult to reverse, so it is important to see clearly what the finished house will look like before work begins.

Showing the Result Before Starting

Rather than describe the result in words, FAIME prepared it on paper. Using the house's front and side elevation drawings, FAIME marked up exactly which surfaces would be white and which would carry the contrasting trim colour, and reviewed the drawing with the homeowner alongside colour samples. The homeowner could see the finished house before a single surface was painted, and knew what to expect at every stage of the work.

That step takes an hour and prevents the most common disappointment in exterior painting: a finished house that does not look the way the owner imagined it.

Painting the Brick

The brick walls on every elevation were painted white, transforming the house from traditional red brick to a clean, modern finish. Painted brick reads very differently from the original. It brightens the whole house and makes the dark windows and trim stand out crisply against it.

Windows, Doors, Railings, Gutters & Soffits

The second half of the scheme is the contrast. The window frames, doors, porch railings and posts, gutters, downspouts, soffits and porch trim were all finished in a dark colour. This is precise work: every window frame has to be cut cleanly against the brick, and every railing picket and gutter run has to be coated evenly, because the contrast between white and dark shows any uneven line immediately.

One Week, Start to Finish

A crew of four completed the full exterior in one week, with surrounding landscaping, paving and the porch protected throughout. The project was completed on schedule, within budget and with zero safety incidents, and the finished house matches the drawing the homeowner approved before work began.

Exterior House Painting FAQ

Can brick be painted?

Yes, as on this bungalow, where red brick was painted white. It is a decision that is difficult to reverse, so it is worth seeing the planned result before work begins. The brick needs to be clean, sound and dry, and a coating suitable for masonry should be used. We assess the brick at the free site visit and explain what is involved before quoting.

How long does it take to paint the exterior of a house?

It depends on the size of the house, the surfaces involved and the weather. Here, a crew of four painted the full exterior, including brick, windows, doors, railings, gutters and soffits, in one week.

How can I see what my house will look like before it is painted?

Ask your contractor to show you. On this project we marked up the house's elevation drawings to show exactly which surfaces would be white and which would carry the dark trim colour, and reviewed the plan with the homeowner alongside colour samples before any work began.

Can gutters, soffits and aluminium railings be painted?

Yes. On this house the gutters, downspouts, soffits and porch railings were all repainted in a dark colour to contrast with the newly white brick. Metal and prefinished surfaces need proper cleaning and preparation so that the new coating bonds and lasts.
